Carina Nebula and Chi Velorum
Carina Nebula and Chi Velorum (SS61 RMod).jpg
A framing of the Carina Nebula below and the colourful double star, Chi (or 𝛘) Velorum (in Vela) above. The Gem Cluster, NGC 3293, is also resolved at the upper right of the nebula.
Taken for the purposes of illustrating where the star is, though it is just resolved at this image scale into its blue and yellow components. It is sometimes referred to at Albireo Australis because of its resemblance to the famous northern double star Albireo in Cygnus
This is a stack of 8 x 5 minutes with the Sharpstar 61mm EDPH refractor at f/4.4 and modified Canon R at ISO 800. Taken from Australia in March 2024.
