Thin Low Moon in Twilight at Horsethief Canyon
Thin Low Moon in Twilight at Horsethief Canyon.jpg
The very thin crescent Moon low and in the bright twilight. Can you see it? It is just below and left of centre, above and to the right of the grain bins on the horizon. This was two days past New Moon, on September 16, 2023. But the low angle of the ecliptic in autumn places the Moon very low in the sky and a tough sighting even with the camera. This was a very clear night at Horsethief Canyon viewpoint north of Drumheller, Alberta, on an evening when Comet Nishimura was supposed to have been visible nearby but no luck seeing or shooting the comet this night.
This is a single exposure with the Canon R5 and Canon RF135mm lens.
