Auroral Arc Across the North (May 10, 2024)
Auroral Arc Across the North (May 10, 2024).jpg
The arc of aurora in purple and white across the northern sky from home in Alberta on May 10, 2024 at the start of the great display (about 11:30 pm MD) of May 10, 2024. The aurora shows odd colours, likely from nitrogen, with little of the usual green from oxygen. The yellow at left is skyglow from Calgary 100 km away.
Castor, Pollux and Capella are over my house at left in the northwest. Polaris is at top left of centre due north, with the W of Cassiopeia below. At right are Deneb and Vega rising in the east. Two other cameras on tripods are in the frame taking images.
This is a 180° panorama of 9 segments, each 10 seconds with the Laowa 15mm lens at f/2.8 on the Canon Ra at ISO 800. Stitched in Adobe Camera Raw. Adobe DeNoise AI applied to the raw segments.
