Messier 25 Cluster in Sagittarius
M25 in Sagittarius (APO120 Ra).jpg
This is the large and bright open star cluster Messier 25 (aka IC 4725) in Sagittarius, set in a rich field in the Milky Way. Discovered in 1746 by de Cheseaux, and re-observed by Charles Messier in 1764, William Herschel never added it to his General Catalogue, so it does not carry an NGC number but an Index Catalogue number from the later IC Supplements.
There is a matching image of Messier 23 as well taken the same night with the same gear.
Technical:
This is a stack of just 10 x 2-minute exposures with the Askar APO120 refractor at f/5.6 with the 0.8x Reducer and the Canon Ra at ISO 1600. Taken in October 2024 from the Quailway Cottage in southeast Arizona with the field low in the southwest.
