NGC 6905, Blue Flash Nebula in Delphinus
NGC 6905 Blue Flash Nebula in Delphinus (APO120 R5).jpg
This is the small, bright planetary nebula, NGC 6905 in Delphinus, sometimes called the Blue Flash Nebula. The nebula is listed as being magnitude 10, so fairly bright. However, the nebula measures 0.6 arc minutes across or just 36 arc seconds. So it is small (even when shot with this focal length of 840mm) but vividly coloured. It is planetaries like this that give them their name, as they resemble the tiny disks of Uranus or Neptune, not because they have any association with planet formation.
Technical:
This is a stack of 12 x 8-minute exposures with the Askar APO120 refractor at f/7 with its 1x Flattener, and the stock Canon R5 at ISO 800. Taken from home in Alberta on October 30, 2024. Autoguided with the MGEN3 guider.
