Mars and Jupiter in Taurus
Mars and Jupiter in Taurus (August 18, 2024).jpg
Red Mars at lower left and bright Jupiter above it are here together in Taurus at dawn on August 18, 2024. Aldebaran and the Hyades cluster are at upper right. The fainter stars clusters NGC 1746 (above the planets) and NGC 1647 (at centre) are also in the field. The planets were 2° apart this morning. Mars was almost the same brightness as the red giant star Aldebaran, and the two have similar reddish tints. This was 4 days after the two planets' very close conjunction, but clouds and smoke prevented a shot of this conjunction until this morrning. Even so some light clouds passing through added the bright streaks and the photogenic glows around the planets and stars. No diffusion filter was needed this morning! Dawn twilight was brightening the sky and tinting it blue. This is a stack of 4 x 20-second exposures with the Canon RF135mm lens at f/2 and Canon R5 at ISO 400. On the MSM Nomad tracker.
