Shooting at Red Rock Coulee
Shooting at Red Rock Coulee.jpg
Two photographers are shooting nightscapes at the scenic location of Red Rock Coulee in southern Alberta, on a partly cloudy and smoky summer night. On this night I was participating in a tour group and field workshop for Milky Way photography, conduced by Neil Zeller Photo Tours. The group chased into the clearest skies in southern Alberta for the opportunity of shooting the Milky Way over the unusual red rock concretions that are scattered over the landscape. But an aurora also kicked up this night behnd the camera to the north, which is where the photographers have their cameras aimed.
But my camera was aimed south, to the galactic core area of Sagittarius, partly obscured by cloud.
While the rocks are red, some of the foreground coloration is from other photographer's red headlamps.
TECHNICAL:
This is blend of tracked (for the sky) and untracked (for the ground) images: a stack of 2 x 1 minute for the sky and a stack of 2 x 1 minute for the ground, all at f/2 with the Viltrox 16mm lens on the Nikon Z6III at ISO 800. And on the MSM Nomad star tracker.
