Canopus Low in Dawn Twilight
Canopus in Dawn Twilight (85mm R5).jpg
This is the southern star Canopus in Carina low in the south at dawn, from southern Arizona. This illustrates how this star, the second brightest in the night sky and at -52º declination, can be seen from about 30° N latitude, in this case 32° N. This was early October (in 2024) when Canopus is visible in the dawn sky. It was almost due south at this time at its highest, but still only 5º up in altitude.
This is a single 2.5-second untracked exposure with the Rokinon 85mm lens at f/2 on the Canon R5 at ISO 800. Taken from the Quailway Cottage near Portal, Arizona.
