This is a framing of the rich field in Cassiopeia and Perseus containing the popular and bright Double Cluster (at right), a star cluster accompanied by the complex of emission nebulosity popularly called the Heart and Soul Nebulas.

The Heart Nebula (aka IC 1805) is at top, and the Soul Nebula (aka IC 1848 or the Embryo Nebula) ) is below.

North is at left in this framing where I had the camera frame parallel to the horizon with this field coming up in the northeast on an August night.

Above the Heart Nebula is the appendage of bright nebulosity catalogued as NGC 896, with some subtle bluish reflection nebulosity. The star cluster below the Heart is NGC 1027. A sparse star cluster at bottom is Stock 23, aka Pazmino's Cluster. Though lost among the stars here, the large star cluster Stock 2 is to the upper left of the Double Cluster, with an arc of stars leading to it and near an odd square pattern of stars. Stock 2 is more obvious in binoculars.

The bright orange star at bottom is Eta Persei. Two smaller star clusters lie between Eta and the Double Cluster: Trumpler 2 (above Eta) and NGC 957 (below the Double Cluster).

The Milky Way in this area of sky looking toward the outer Perseus Arm of our galaxy contains a mix of brighter starfields contrasting with dark dust lanes.

Technical:
This is a stack of 16 x 1-minute exposures with the Canon RF135mm lens at f/2 on the astro-modified Canon R at ISO 1600, on the MSM Nomad tracker with no autoguiding, just freewheel tracking. There is very slight star trailing. Taken on a very clear night, August 8/9, 2024 at the Saskatchewan Summer Star Party in the Cypress Hills.
