Piscis Austrinus and Grus Above Horizon (RF28-70mm RMod).jpg
This frames the southern constellations of Phoenix (at lower left), Grus the Crane (at lower right), and Piscis Austrinus, the Southern Fish (at top right). At upper left is the faint constellation of Sculptor, home of the South Galactic Pole, here at upper left below the bright star Diphda.
The bright star at top in PsA is Fomalhaut, dubbed the Lonely Star as it sits in a fairly blank area of sky devoid of other bright stars. The brightest star in Grus is Alnair. In the upper left corner is the bright star Diphda, aka Deneb Kaitos, in Cetus. They are all here low above the southern horizon from Arizona at +32° latitude.
The sky is filled with green and red airglow which I did not suppress.
Technical:
This is a stack of 4 x 2 minute tracked exposures, with the Canon RF28-70mm lens at 28mm and f/2.5 on the Canon R at ISO 800. Taken from the Quailway Cottage in southern Arizona in October 2024. On the MSM Nomad tracker. Diffraction spikes added for artistic effect with AstronomyTools actions.
