Planet Lineup (6x7 35mm) 03-28-04.jpg
Lineup of planets in March 2004 -- with Mercury just visible low in west above horizon at right bottom. Venus is above that, then above that Pleiades cluster, and above that Mars (red object with Aldebaran as similar object at left of Mars in Hyades. Moon is brightest glow, with Saturn just below it. To add -- streak above Moon and Saturn is Space Station making a pass. Orion and Sirius at lower left. ..Taken March 28, 2004, evening, from home...Venus and Mercury both near greatest elongation east of Sun so both planets at greatest angle away from Sun and at maximum altitude...Pentax 6x7 camera with 120-format Fujichrome 100F film, and 35mm ultra wide-angle lens at f/4.5. Exposure 15 minutes, tracked so that horizon lights are trailed. Minimal processing to avoid dithering of colors in sky. Glow layer added to enlarge stars somewhat.
