Big Dipper & Arcturus over Hilda Peak (20mm Z6III).jpg
The Big Dipper (at upper right) and Arcturus (at upper left) in a moonlit sky over Mount Athabasca (on the left) and sharp-pointed Hilda Peak. This is from the Parker Ridge parking area on the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park, Alberta. This was July 15, 2024, with a waxing gibbous Moon low and setting off frame to the left in the southwest, but lighting the sky blue and the clouds yellow, as well as lighting the mountainside at right.
Technical:
This is a blend of a stack of 4 x 20-second exposures for the ground and a single 20-second exposure for the sky, all at f/2 with the Nikkor 20mm lens and the Nikon Z6III at ISO 1600. All were untracked, with the camera on a static tripod. A single exposure would have worked, but the ground is a stack for noise smoothing. The sky is a single to minimize star trailing. Adobe DeNoise AI applied to all frames. FInishing effects added with Luninar Neo and Nik Color EFX.
