M36 & M38 Clusters in Auriga (EDQ86 R5).jpg
This frames the two Messier Catalogue star clusters inside the main pattern of Auriga the Charioteer, Messier 36 (at bottom) and Messier 38 (at top). M36 is nicknamed the Pinwheel Cluster, while M38 is the Starfish Cluster.
Below M38 is the smaller star cluster NGC 1907. At lower right is the nebula IC 417 surrounding a colourful group of stars that make up the loose star cluster Stock 8. Between it and M36 is the small nebula NGC 1931. The red nebula at far upper left is Sharpless 2-235.
The field of view is 4.2º by 2.8º.
Technical:
This is a stack of 25 x 4 minute exposures with the Astro-Tech EDQ86 apo refractor at f/5.6 with its 0.8X Reducer, using the Canon R5 at ISO 800. On the Astro-Physics AP400 mount autoguided with the Lacerta MGEN3 guider. Shot from home on a mild winter night in January 2025.
