Southern Alberta Star Party Panorama.jpg
A panorama of the summer Milky Way from Sagittarius up to Cepheus, over the Southern Alberta Star Party, September 13, 2023. The star party is held at a church camp near Elkwater, Alberta in the Cypress Hills. The sky is very dark there! About 80 people attended this year. Most are looking after their astrophoto rigs. The camp has a number of cabins for accommodation and a main service building at centre here.
Some airglow tints the sky at bottom. The Summer Triangle stars are prominent at top.
This is a blend of a single untracked 45-second exposure for the ground, with a panorama of three segments, each a stack of four tracked 45-second exposures for the sky, panning up in 30° spacings. All with the Canon R6 at ISO 1600 and Venus Optics 15mm lens. Stitched with Photomerge in Photoshop. Tracked on the Star Adventurer. The night was very dewy from an afternoon storm, and I just had time to take all the segments before the lens started dewing up.
