Comet Hale-Bopp (180mm) 4-7-97.jpg
Comet Hale-Bopp on April 7, 1997, with it passing near M34, and showing the classic twin tails of a comet: the straight blue ion or gas tail and the curving white dust tail.
Taken with the 180mm Nikkor lens at f/2.8 on Ektachrome Elite II 100 slide film (very fine grain) for about a 10 minute exposure, tracked at sidereal rate, not on comet. Taken from home in Alberta. Re-processed in May 2020.
