Comet McNaught (Daytime January 14, 07).jpg
This is Comet McNaught (C/2006/P1) in a telescopic close-up with it in the daytime sky. Taken January 14, at 1:10 pm MST, with the comet nearly due south and as high as it could get. The comet was just 6° away (east) of the Sun. I had to shield front lens from direct sunlight, or the field was flooded and washed out.
Technical:
Taken through 4-inch f/6 apo refractor (the A&M) with Canon 20Da at ISO 100 and metered exposure (1/4000 sec). Not tracking. Focused on Venus but there were still shot-to-shot variations in sharpness. This was the best. Contrast was boosed greatly to snap up comet and tail. Sharpening layers (10 and 50 pixel High Pass) added to punch up comet. Minor reprocessing in 2025.
