North Circumpolar Star Trails from Home (July 5, 2011).jpg
A fish-eye image of circumpolar star trails circling the northern sky and Polaris, with an aurora across the north as a bonus.
This is a stack of 200 frames, each 40 seconds at f/4 with the 8mm Sigma fish-eye lens and Canon 5D Mark II at ISO 1000. Stacked with Advanced Stacker Plus with Ultrastreaks mode. An additional single exposure taken several frames after the last one in the stack set (to create the gap) adds the pinpoint stars at the ends of the trails, to better show the direction of motion, counterclockwise. Shot in 2011 and re-processed in 2019.
