Orion and Monoceros area, taken from the Painted Pony Resort, New Mexico, March 12, 2013. The area is filled with red emission nebulas:
— the large curving arc is Barnard's Loop, Sharpless 2-276.
— the circular nebula in the head of Orion is the Angelfish Nebula, Sharpless 2-264.
— the Rosette Nebula, NGC 2237, is at left in Monoceros.
Technical:
This is a stack of 5 x 7 minute exposures at f/3.2 and the Sigma 50mm lens and modified Canon 5D Mark II at ISO 800, plus another layer of 2 images taken through a Kenko Softon filter for the star glows. Reprocessed in 2025.
