A composite of images of the waning Moon in the dawn sky of July 2017, with a series of close-ups taken with the 130mm refractor and Canon 60Da camera, and most with the 2X Barlow lens to further magnify the image.
The sequence progresses from a 19-day-old moon (at far right) to a 26-day-old Moon (at far left).
In this set, the sequence progresses in time from right to left, reflecting the Moon’s motion from west to east (right to left) across the sky from night to night due to its orbital motion around Earth. Each morning, the Moon appears farther to the left, or east, as seen from the northern hemisphere.
