NGC 3532 (4in f6 5D).jpg
The Football Cluster, aka the Black Arrow Cluster in Carina, catalogued as NGC 3532. The dark band across the middle that gives it its nickname of the Black Arrow Cluster is just visible here. But it is also known as the Football Cluster, from the elongated appearance as an Australian rugby ball. Another name is the Pincushion Cluster.
The red nebula at left is where the star cluster Stock 13 is, but the nebula is not included in catalogues and atlases that I could find. The small cluster at lower right is Trumpler 17.
Technical:
This is a stack of four 3-minute exposures with the original Canon 5D, astro-modified by Hutech, at ISO 800, and Astro-Physics Traveler at f/6 with the 6x7 field flattener, from Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia. Reprocessed in 2025.
