Moonset over Waterfowl Lake (28-70mm R5).jpg
This is a panorama of the twilight sky over Lower Waterfowl Lake and Mount Chephren in Banff National Park, Alberta, with the waxing gibbous Moon setting behind the mountains. The Moon creates a yellow glitter path reflection on the water.
This was July 16, 2024 on a very clear night in the Rockies. The Moon was in Scorpius this night, just to the right of the red star Antares which is visible just above the mountain ridge at left. However, the Moon is setting behind Aries Peak, so an astronomically named mountain, but it should be Scorpius Peak! Howse Peak is to the right between Aries and Chephren.
Technical:
This is a 7-section panorama with the RF15-35mm lens at 29mm and f/5.6, each for 10 seconds with the Canon R5 at ISO 100. Stitched with Adobe Camera Raw. The original is 22,700 by 5,600 pixels. Three shorter exposures for just the Moon are blended in to retain some measure of the lunar disk and not have it blow out to an overexposed blob. Adobe DeNoise AI applied to each of the segments before stitching.
