Orion & Winter Triangle #1 (35mm 5DII).jpg
This frames Orion and the "Winter Triangle" stars of Sirius, Procyon and Betelgeuse.
The array of Messier star clusters M50, M46, M47, M41 and M44 are all visible at lower left. The red nebulas of the Seagull, Rosette, Barnard's Loop and the Angelfish Nebula (around the head of Orion) all nicely show up. As do the Orion and Horsehead Nebulas around the Belt and Sword of Orion.
Technical:
Taken from the Painted Pony Resort in New Mexico, March 13, 2013. In a stack of 5 x 8 minute exposures at f/4 with the 35mm Canon EF lens and 5D MkII at ISO 800, plus a layer of 2 x 8 minutes with the Kenko Softon filter for the star glows. No nebula filter was used here. Reprocessed in 2025.
