Sagittarius Above Trees #1 (35mm 20Da).jpg
This is the Sagittarius area of the Milky Way from the Saskatchewan Summer Star Party (latitude 49.5° N) in the Cypress Hills, August 11, 2007.
This shows the two Sagitrarius Starclouds: the main one above the trees, and the smaller one at top, aka Messier 24, and flanked by the star clusters M23 and M25. The main nebula visible here is the large Lagoon Nebula, M8. The globular star cluster M22 is left of centre. The "Dark Horse" is at right.
This serves to illustrate how this area of sky is low in the summer sky from more northern latitudes.
Technical:
With the Canon EF35mm L lens at f/2.8 and Canon 20Da at ISO 800 for single 6 minute exposure. Tracked on the Takahashi EM10 mount. Reprocessed in 2025.
